In late August 2026, China Southern Airlines officially released the route optimization plan for the 2026–2027 winter-spring flight season, focusing on upgrading China-Australia cross-border air routes. The airline significantly increases flight frequencies on two core routes from Guangzhou to Perth and Guangzhou to Adelaide, comprehensively improving two-way navigation capacity and travel experience to strongly support the recovery of cultural tourism, business exchanges and people-to-people communication between China and Australia. The new flight schedule will take effect on December 1, 2026 and last until March 10, 2027, fully covering the winter vacation travel peak in the Northern Hemisphere, the summer cultural tourism boom in the Southern Hemisphere, as well as the year-end business visit and study tour seasons. After the optimization, the original four weekly flights on both routes are upgraded to daily flights, achieving normalized daily connectivity. All flights are operated by Boeing 787-9 wide-body aircraft, which comprehensively improves passenger capacity, flight comfort, operational stability and luggage service, greatly optimizing the cross-border travel experience. As the largest international aviation hub in South China, Guangzhou radiates massive passenger resources from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and six southern Chinese provinces. The increased flights effectively fill the long-standing capacity gap of direct high-frequency flights from South China to Western and Southern Australia, solving the pain points of long travel time, cumbersome transfers and high travel costs. In terms of cultural tourism, stable and frequent direct flights further stimulate the two-way tourism market. It facilitates Chinese tourists to experience Australia’s summer coastal scenery, wine manors, wild landscapes and local culture, boosting the development of customized tours, study tours, parent-child travels and high-end business tourism. Meanwhile, it provides efficient and convenient travel channels for Australian tourists, university research teams and business delegations to conduct tourism activities, academic exchanges and business negotiations in China. In the economic and trade field, high-frequency air transportation reduces the time cost of cross-border business travel, supports regular enterprise exchanges, and promotes the cross-border circulation of agricultural products, light industrial goods and technological products. Furthermore, improved air connectivity accelerates the sharing of cultural and tourism resources, joint development of travel routes and mutual transportation of tourists, driving the integrated development of upstream and downstream industries such as hospitality, catering, exhibitions and cultural creativity.
